Plants get stressed when watering is unpredictable – drenched one day, bone dry for ages after. Some cope, but many don’t thrive. A simple schedule – even rough, like “balcony pots every second day in summer, twice a week in winter” – brings consistency.
You don’t have to be perfect. The schedule just gives you a default. You can still adjust if it’s unusually hot or rainy, but you’re less likely to forget completely for a week. Grouping plants by water needs, as you’ve already thought about for other sites, fits neatly into this idea.
A schedule also helps if someone else has to water for you while you’re away. Instead of a vague, “Just water them sometimes,” you can say, “Please water these pots on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.”
Regular, moderate care beats occasional intense attention. Plants respond to that steady routine with healthier growth and fewer emergencies.
