Many apartments or gated communities have rules that affect daily living – about pets, noise, parking, renovations, rentals, use of common areas and even what you can hang on balconies. If you don’t read these in advance, you might move in and later find that your lifestyle clashes with the rules.
For example, you may discover that pets aren’t allowed, loud music after a certain time is forbidden, or you can’t rent out your flat easily if your plans change. There might be restrictions on drying clothes on balconies or making structural changes.
Reading the rules beforehand gives you a realistic understanding of how flexible or strict the community is. You can decide if that suits your family, work and habits.
It’s better to feel slightly bored reading documents now than to feel trapped or constantly in conflict later.
