Metal parts on roofs – like gutters, flashing, fasteners, or sheets – are exposed to sun, rain and pollution constantly. Over time, unprotected or damaged metal may start to rust.
Surface rust, when caught early, can often be cleaned and treated with protective coatings or paint. But if it’s left to spread, the metal can weaken, perforate and eventually fail. A rusty gutter, for example, may develop holes that pour water against walls instead of directing it safely away. Rusty flashing can create entry points for water where different roof sections meet.
By inspecting these metal parts now and then and dealing with rust at the “small orange patch” stage, you avoid reaching the “big expensive replacement” stage.
It’s classic early intervention: cheaper and easier than full repair after failure.
