When paint starts peeling high up on walls, especially near the ceiling or on upper floors, it’s often a sign that moisture is arriving from above rather than from the ground. That moisture might come from a leaking roof, blocked gutters overflowing, or poor waterproofing on terraces.

Water sneaks in, travels through walls and eventually makes the paint bubble, crack and peel. You might also see faint stains or patches before the peeling starts.

Simply repainting without solving the source will only hide the issue for a short time. If you notice repeated peeling in the same upper areas, it’s worth inspecting the roof, gutters and external walls above that point.

Treat it as the wall’s way of telling you, “Something’s wrong higher up – please check.”
